Put a drug in front of me and I turn into a dumpster, consuming everything in sight. I can't stop. Nothing can stop me. Mom can't stop me. Doctors can't stop me. Pills can't stop me. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in recovery. I spent over 20 years "sober" trying to assimilate into mainstream AA, not continuing to live the "way of life" as described in our Big Book. My higher power carried me through without a 🍸 or 💉 and I eventually re-discovered what the author has shared so eloquently in his story. I am now happily recovered and "doing the deal" leading similar Chapter 2 meetings in our area, including working with teens and the incarcerated to show exactly how we have recovered! It is possible to recover from drugs and alcohol for life.
Dead on about addiction. A must read, life changing book. Great for addicts and anyone effected by substance abuse in some way. I would without question recommend this book. If you are willing to change your life for the better this book has all the insight and tools there is to change. Don't think about it, just get this book!!!!!
I felt like I was reading about my son. It's amazing how addicts think the same, especially the part where he believed no one else felt the depths of depression like he did. My son said the same thing to me, and used that as an excuse to relapse continuously. I gave this book to my son, who is in long term treatment, and he is a changed person. He has also had a spiritual awakening, like Charles. I liked that this was a fast read. The only thing I did not like about it was the line spacing (it was too big). I would have preferred a shorter book with regular spaces between the lines.
Excellent Excellent Excellent. For addicts and their families Charles story is one of brutal honesty and hope. This book has helped me more than I can put into words. After reading his story I no longer have guilt or shame about having an addict in my family. This is a huge start to MY recovery. I highly recommend.
This book was incredible and right on point. I love Charlie's take on addiction and how he breaks through the myths associated with it to come to the real stuff, the solutions on how to really "fix" the issue. Charlie's humility and therefore his way of taking a hard, honest look at himself is amazing and refreshing. I highly recommend this book to addicts and the people in their lives. Thank you Charlie!
