After getting many requests for a sequel to my book, "An American Band, the America Story" I rolled up my sleeves and started writing "Our Day In The Sun". To the thousands of AMERICA fans wanting to hear more stories of my time in Hollywood this new offering sports a Prologue of several seminal events concerning AMERICA which help explain why my wife Catherine and I wanted a complete change of scenery.
Both Catherine and I were born within the sound of the sea, had lived in Malibu in the secluded area of Trancas. Though our walls were covered by 21 Gold and Platinum Albums and a Grammy and I was nominated for a Grammy for my first solo effort, "All Things Are Possible" I again fell into the trap of endless touring.
Eventually I was set to sign a Recording Contract with RCA in Nashville, I balked at the deal realizing I would be once again living La Vida Psycho.
So, I politely said "No Thanks" to the Record Deal and Catherine and I embarked on a life-long dream and adventure of living in the British West Indies, right on the snow white beach with the turqouise blue "Gin Clear" water just a few dozen steps from our back door.

What a good read! One of the rare honest voices about real life in the Caribbean. Dan and Catherine had many extraordinary adventures during their time there, What I wasn't expecting was the humor in Dan's writing. Several times while reading the book, I was busting up laughing at the unintended circumstances they found themselves in and the wonderful way Dan described those events. Dan Peek is one of the three co-founders of the highly-successful 70's rock band America, and author and singer of a number of America's many hits. Dan writes about his life growing up and as a rock superstar in his first book, "An American Band." Dan left America in the late-1970's and became the first big star of the then-budding Christian rock scene. Dan then set out with his wife Catherine on a trek around the world. This new book, "Our Day in the Sun," is about that trek.
I am one of many Dan Peek fans who read the chapters of this book as Dan posted them on his blog over a period of time. I have not yet read the final book, so my review is based on what he posted.
The book is made up of short, compact chapters. Each chapter is a complete story describing a place, its people, its history, and its myths and legends.
Dan puts his love of cultures, history, philosophy, and spirituality into the mix, and writes with a unique British-American perspective that will make you wow and laugh. As much as all that, the story is a travelogue of tiny islands in vast oceans, and of Dan Peek's vast imagination and fervent spirituality.
I think the title is perfect. After an exhilirating but reckless ride through the darkness of an out-of-control rock-and-roll life, this story is about placing every experience into the sunlight of brotherhood, love, and meaningfulness. If nothing else, Dan is candid, which makes this an uplifting, inspiring real-life story.
Great job once again Dan! Keep 'em coming!
I enjoyed Dan's tales of daily living on a "resort" island, it's challenges and joys. I found the book to be easy reading and informative as well, embellished with details of the island's history that he would insert here and there.
Dan writes in a very conversational tone and the anticdotes he shares are fun and interesting. Unfortunately I was expecting more of the break-up of America so while the book is interesting and the story of "getting away from the music industry life" is compelling, it was not what I was expecting or hoping for.
An interesting read for a fan of any of Dan's music.
Interesting book
A straightforward account of their time in the Cayman Islands. There are no in depth reflections of any kind, but it is still interesting to hear how they dealt with various issues in the islands.
